01 Choke Enough (Deluxe) ALBUM
I love Oklou as an artist because her sound feels truly unique. It sits at an intersection of gentleness, hyperpop, and femininity in a way that feels very distinct. choke enough (Deluxe) is especially striking and might be one of my favorite albums of all time. It is hard to describe, but her voice and the production feel incredibly delicate and and atmospheric, like being suspended in a light blue, cloudlike world. The album explores themes of self-discovery and emotional vulnerability, and listening to it feels like a fully immersive experience.
02 Better Oblivion Community Center ALBUM
Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst's love child. What more could I ask for. This album is me, I am this album.
03 Hats ALBUM
Very into The Blue Nile right now. Not much to say, a cult classic for a reason.
04 The Bends ALBUM
Just an extremely well done album. No skips, and has some of my favorite Radiohead songs of all time. I have been listening to this album a lot in the car recently, it just sounds so good, and is even better when you know the lyrics.
05 Ivan Pokidyshev ARTIST
Ivan Pokidyshev is one of the first contemporary painters who really stuck with me. He uses thermography to photograph people and then translates those images into glowing painted figures. His work explores themes of science, life, love, and religion. Checkout his instragram here.
06 Laura Footes ARTIST
Laura Foote is a really inspiring painter for me. She paints entirely without reference, using only memory and imagination to create her work. Her paintings often feature human figures that are semi-transparent and abstract, blending into the surrounding space in a distinctive way. Just saw her exhibit at Shrine NYC! Checkout her instragram here.
07 Amy Renee Webb ARTIST
Her glass looking religious iconography is unreal. Also, she shares my love for neon green. Checkout her instragram here.
08 Lorenzo Amos ARTIST
His current work makes an effort to "capture the life of his surroundings". Generally, I really like his style and how his focus allows us to see similar backgrounds across paintings. Checkout his instagram here.
09 Love Lies Bleeding film
My favorite shot is the egg yolks and cigarettes going into the trash. Kristen Stewart and Katy O'Brian play off of each other fabulously. At times, the timeline can be a little confusing, but you realize by the end that they are not very concerned with delivering a realistic storyline.
10 Call Me by Your Name film
Everything is so visually beautiful. I love the all of the shots and the lighting and the scenery. Timothée Chalamet was a great cast for Elio, he perfectly captures teenage embarrassment and emotion. The mix of languages and cultures is also done really well.
11 Parasite film
I don't need to need to overexplain this one it literally won best picture. Overall just a great story with such dynamic characters. Cinematography is also obviously fabulous.
12 Gone Girl film
Such a good thriller. I love the way the story is told. Rosamund Pike is an incredible lead, I love all of her thrillers, but her monologues in Gone Girl are notably iconic.
13 High Fidelity TV
I absolutely love this show and wish it had lasted more than one season. Rob feels like Carrie Bradshaw’s cooler, more esoteric cousin. She is self-centered, hyper-introspective, and defined by an obsession with records. I cannot help but love her (I may be biased because I love Zoë Kravitz), and I want to live in her apartment.
14 Schitt's Creek TV
Schitt's creek is probably the funniest show I've ever watched, and it is comedic in such an intelligent way. I actually laugh out loud so often. I was surprised by how visually pleasing it is too.
15 Too Much TV
A comedy show with an engaging plot and fabulous cinematography. Right up my alley. I started this a few weeks ago.
16 Hacks TV
Started watching this show after the Emmys. This is the kind of show you need to watch 3 times because the jokes are so fast and constant that you miss half of them the first time. I am so impressed by the writing and I often actually need to pause the show because I am in so much awe of how they even came up with the line that was just said. Great balance of comedy and plot.
